LanAgent – Computer Monitoring Tool

Review by George Norman on 20 Dec, 2012

Let’s say that you’re in charge of an office and you have to manage several employees and make sure they don’t waste time. You could go around the office and make sure they’re working and not instant messaging with friends – but that would be an inefficient approach. Taking advantage of the functionality LanAgent has to offer is a much better choice. This application allows you to monitor all the computers on the network from a centralized location. You will be able to see everything – with an emphasis on everything.

The minimum system requirements for running LanAgent are quite low: Intel Pentium 3 or better processor, 256Mb of RAM or more, 300MB of free disk space, Windows operating system. To get started with the application, you will have to download an archive that contains an installer package and instructions on how to set up LanAgent. You see, the application consists of two parts: a client and an administrator. The client goes on the PCs you want to monitor and the administrator goes on the PC that will be used to view all the info collected by LanAgent.

Speaking about that, LanAgent collects a lot of info. As mentioned above, it tells you everything about your employees' activity on theirs PC. The application records keystrokes, takes screenshots, monitors what applications are launched/installed/removed, watches content copied to the clipboard, tracks instant messages, monitors visited websites and email correspondence, keeps track of printed documents, and more. All this info can be nicely put together as a report by the application’s handy Report Wizard. You can also set it up so that if security policies are violated, you will be notified.

LanAgent is shareware: the unregistered version can be used for free for 15 days and it can monitor no more than 3 PCs.

LanAgent provides a handy means of staying on top of what your employees do on their PCs. You will know if they’re hard at work or hardly working.

Pros
The system requirements for running LanAgent are quite low. From a centralized location you can monitor all the PCs on your network. There’s a handy Report Wizard. Active alerts for security policy violations.

Cons
Free to use for 15 days to monitor 3 PCs; nag screen.

Nowadays no one has any doubts about the necessity of ensuring the security for information resource in a organization or company. The commonly used approach to this process implies examining the system, auditing the state of information security, developing a new security policy or correcting the existing one. It is convenient if you can do most of these things with one software suite. LanAgent has been working well with 300 workstations, which proves the good scalability of this software. We should particularly mention special features offered by LanAgent, such as ...

LanAgent became one of the key tools for me and for our department. Remote control tools allows you to install monitoring tools on the computer invisibly for the network user and then invisibly monitor the user's activity. We should say that LanAgent is not the only monitoring tool that we tested. The use of these tools ...

Head of Computer Company "Exclusive":

We were faced with the challenge of making our staff more efficient and productive. Bonuses had an effect that was short-term at most. There was a burst of activity, but it did not last long: only about two months. From the outside it seemed like employees were busy. But the actual results showed otherwise. To improve the situation, we decided to install special computer monitoring software...
